After spending 6 years at HBO, Ryan founded his own company Murphy’s Law Productions in 2020. Primarily working in the Documentary space, Ryan directs and produces content for a variety of different networks and streaming services. Ryan considers himself a storyteller, and has made a career harnessing the power of sport to inspire change and societal dialogue.

In 2024, Ryan was nominated for a PGA Award for the documentary Film, Triumph: Jesse Owens and the Berlin Olympics. In 2025, the documentary Boo-Yah - A Portrait of Stuart Scott, was nominated for a NAACP Award.
