Ryan is a producer, director, and founder of Murphy’s Law Productions, a nonfiction production company specializing in premium documentary films and series. Since launching the company in 2020, he has produced, executive produced, and directed more than ten feature-length documentaries and documentary series for major networks and streaming platforms.

His work often explores the intersection of sports, history, race, and politics, bringing overlooked and impactful stories from the late nineteenth century to the present day to audiences around the world. In 2024, Ryan received a Producers Guild of America (PGA) Award nomination for Triumph: Jesse Owens and the Berlin Olympics. Most recently, he served as lead producer of Boo-Yah: A Portrait of Stuart Scott for ESPN’s acclaimed 30 for 30 series, which earned a Primetime Emmy nomination. In 2020, Ryan earned his first Emmy Award for a documentary on acclaimed surfer Kelly Slater.

Prior to founding Murphy’s Law Productions, Ryan spent six years at HBO Sports, where he developed his craft in documentary storytelling under some of the industry's most respected producers and editors. Earlier in his career, he gained experience across the entertainment and sports media landscape, working at Paramount Pictures, on the sets of films directed by Rob Reiner and HBO miniseries productions, in the control rooms of MLB and NHL Network broadcasts, and ringside at major HBO Boxing pay-per-view events.

Ryan graduated from Hobart College in 2014 with a degree in Film and Television Studies. He resides in Mendham, New Jersey with his wife and two children.
